If you’re in San Francisco, you know the energy around here has been electric with the Giants World Series win. Barbary would like to congratulate the 2010 World Series Champion SF Giants on a great season — and thank them for an amazing few weeks of post-season fun.
To pay tribute, here is a spot editor Bob Spector cut for CSN early in the pre-season. You may recognize the featured Giants player, even without the beard…
Barbary’s Bob Spector recently got the opportunity to cut a unique round of spots for Hoffman-Lewis promoting the return of the ever popular BevMo 5¢ Wine Sale. We won’t give away the surprise, but with a horror movie motif, these spots are sure to give you a little jump. Check one out now on Barbary TV.
Those who know Barbary’s Dan Truog know he is a modern day renaissance man. In addition to being a talented editor, Dan is also a musician and director. Dan showcased his multi-tasking skills by participating in this year’s San Francisco 48 Hour Film Festival. The challenge was to write, shoot and edit a short film in just 48 hours. Dan helmed his crew and the result was “Broken Path”, now featured on Barbary TV. Kudos Dan!
Director: Dan Truog
Editor: Ian Montgomery
Director of Photography: Michael Duffy
**Warning: this film features graphic language.**
Barbary’s senior editor, Bob Spector, recently completed several spots for StubHub! through Duncan/Channon in San Francisco. The comedy spots were directed by Steven Diller out of Station Films and make great use of faux depth-of-field in the opening scene.
Color Correction: Chris Martin/Spypost.
Online/VFX: Greg Gilmore/Barbary Post.
Mix: Joaby Deal/One Union.
Since Barbary’s being asked more and more frequently to “produce” content as well as edit it, we thought we’d take the opportunity to beg some favors from our very talented local crew, DP Cliff Traiman, producer Joe Mendoza and our favorite video director, T. Hunter McCann and shoot for three days and nights.
The result was this video for local songwriter Brittany Shane (who also happens to be married to Bob Spector, the editor). All VFX were completed at Barbary Post in Smoke by Greg Gillmore, and color was done by Chris Martin at SpyPost.
This is the first of two new spots for Sprint that were edited and finished at Barbary Post. Editor Bob Spector traveled to Kansas City to cut on set with the creative team from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners and director Nanette Burstein of Hungryman. Final color by Chris Martin, SpyPost.
BarbaryTV is proud to present the latest music video by Daveed Diggs, “Wash”. The video was an all-Barbary affair, centered around the directing skills of Barbary’s own Daniel Truog. Edited by senior editor, Ian Montgomery, the video was also shot by Barbary Productions DP, Cliff Traiman, and features the AfterEffects/Smoke skills of Alana Rees. “Wash” also represents the start of a 3-month journey for Daniel as he pursues more directorial projects in San Francisco, Chicago and LA. With Bob, Ian and Dan all playing in bands around San Francisco, expect more music videos on BarbaryTV in the not too distant future. Rumor has it there may even be a new Brittany Shane video popping up any day so be sure to check back soon.
Sprint unveiled its new 4G Mobile Hotspot device at the CES show in Las Vegas in January 2010. Barbary Post’s Bob Spector & Alana Rees worked through the holidays to cut and finish this 2-minute piece which preceded CEO Dan Hesse’s speech at the Nevada convention. Directed by Benjy Weinstein of Go Films, the piece was shot on the HVX200 and was cut, color-corrected and output using an Avid Adrenaline & AfterEffects.
What better holiday surprise can a guy get then a hilarious music video — shot and edited on a laptop in a band space? The answer is nothing better!
Thanks to our fearless editors, Ian & Daniel, for this great homage…to…something or other. You can check it out here on Barbary TV.
Happy Holidays from Barbary Post!!!
The holidays are here and it’s been quite a year – busy, slow, busy, slow – for everybody it seems. Good time to brainstorm and “tweak the model”, as they say. With that in mind, we are happy to present a very fine Director of Photography, Mr. Cliff Traiman. Production and post go hand-in-hand and we are happy to handle any production tasks you may have. Cliff has years of experience shooting for both local and national clients and our roster of line producers can assist with any production needs.
Check out Cliff’s showreel on our new Production page.
Barbary Post’s most rhythmic editor, Daniel Truog, just completed nine webisodes for the Doritos website Crash The Super Bowl. These hilarious chapters chronicle the Herbert Brothers’ lessons to aspiring filmmakers looking to emulate the brothers’ success which last year netted them a million dollars for their homemade Doritos commercial.
Dan attended the video shoot in Batesville, IN prior to beginning the edit, then worked nearly a month perfecting these pieces for Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. We’ll cycle through the clips in the coming weeks here on Barbary TV but be sure to visit the official site at www.crashthesuperbowl.com.
Just in case you were wondering, film editors don’t spend ALL of their time in dark rooms, staring at computer monitors, drinking cold coffee and eating lettuce from a box. We also like to spend time in dark bowling alleys, staring at monitors from 1985, drinking cold beers and eating deep-fried mini corndogs. Ya gotta get out once in awhile, ya know??
No, not related to Ted Jenkins’ family, but to a package of spots that he just directed for One World Communications in San Francisco. Accompanied by senior editor Bob Spector and AfterEffects artist Jay Goodman, the crew spent four days shooting in the Central Valley just north of Visalia to capture the live action and elements needed for these VFX spots. All post work was completed at Barbary Post–except for 3D work executed by SaberTooth Productions, color correction at SpyPost and sound mix at M2. Barbary TV is running one of the spots now.
The Barbary Post staff welcomes Oliver Eugene Jenkins!!!! Baby J was born this morning, 7 August 2009 at 9:03am and weighed a whopping 9 lbs 3 oz! He was more than ready! Baby and Mama are doing just fine. Congratulations, Kristen and Teddy!
Spring is the time for all things to grow, and two of our good buddies here at Barbary Post are growing and going onto new adventures outside the Bay Area. David and Shaina, we’ll certainly miss you but wish you all the best! With their exit, we welcome one new member to Barbary Post, Kristen (another one). As if that weren’t enough, our Executive Producer Kristen Jenkins is expecting a bouncing baby boy this summer and will be out on maternity leave starting in July, so our friend Jennifer Suttlemyre will be filling in for her for a few months.
We try to help out causes we believe in, and non-profits such as the Marine Mammal Center suffer greatly during recessionary times. So, we were happy to help out the seals and strike a deal with the MMC for a donation spot. We were able to help coordinate a low budget shoot, along with offering post at a reduced rate.
Here at Barbary Post, we encourage side projects and hobbies. Case in point: our very own Bob Spector and his wife Brittany Shane bring together their combined passions for music and film with Cinematheque Avec. This will be a monthly co-mingling of the two arts, taking place at the legendary Hotel Utah in San Francisco. Brittany and her band will perform in between screenings of original short films and video clips. In light of the recession, admission is a sliding scale. Pay what you can. Popcorn’s on the house.
While purse strings have tightened around us, we decided to put some cash back into the pipeline and buy a big, expensive new toy. Our HDCAM-SR-5800 is the latest and greatest in the world of SR decks. Allowing us to do 5.1 laybacks (among so many other things), it represents the new standard in studio recording. Everyone finishes to this format and we think every post house in town should own one. Although we admit…we’re pretty excited to have been the first.
We hope to make this site a frequent, fun and informative destination that you will want to visit as often as you change your Facebook status.
In fact, we will be making frequent changes to the site. Most obviously will be Barbary TV – where we will post new (or old) spots, projects, excerpts and other cool stuff that we’ve worked on that you may not see on our showreels.
So enjoy Barbary TV and please visit the NEWS page for exciting updates at Barbary Post.
Just in time for the economic downturn, Barbary Post is very pleased to announce some technical improvements and new equipment and services!
